Portal of GRADE Guidelines and Recommendations
About the Portal
This Portal brings together resources to support clinical and public health decisions following the GRADE standard (The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation). These resources have been primarily developed from guidelines, directives, and recommendations from PAHO/WHO, as well as other national and international institutions, associations, and scientific societies.
The objective is to facilitate integrated access to evidence supporting clinical and public health decision-making using the GRADE approach for decision-makers. The resources are related and interconnected. For example, from a PAHO/WHO GRADE guideline registered in BIGG, it is possible to access recommendations for ODS-3 in the BIGG-REC Repository, and vice versa.
The main available resources are:
BIGG – International Database of GRADE Guidelines – a database of selected and evaluated clinical and public health guidelines based on the GRADE approach – Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations. There are more than 2 thousand guidelines and directives published by WHO, PAHO, and other national and international institutions in the health field.
BIGG REC – Repository with over 3 thousand individual recommendations for ODS3 goals (Health and Well-being) originating from clinical and public health guidelines from PAHO and WHO. The recommendations originate from around 300 GRADE guidelines and directives from WHO and PAHO. Each recommendation is related to at least one of the ODS-3 goals and includes information regarding the strength of the recommendation. BIGG-REC uses the PICO model (Population, Intervention, Control, and Outcome) to map and catalog recommendations, enabling decision-making at the local, provincial, regional, and jurisdictional levels. All recommendations included in this repository are from GRADE guidelines published by PAHO and WHO, which, in turn, are included in BIGG.
BIGG Map – Interactive map providing an overview and graphical representation of PAHO and WHO recommendations and evidence summaries for managing COVID-19, following the GRADE approach. The map summarizes recommendations from BIGG-REC and systematic review abstracts on pharmacological interventions for COVID-19 in a matrix of populations and interventions.
The resources offered on this Portal are the result of coordinated work by PAHO/WHO in collaboration with BIREME/PAHO/WHO and the Epistemonikos Foundation.
